On September 14th, according to the Financial Times, Tesla chair Robyn Denholm defended her decision to grant Musk a trillion-dollar stock Options package, stating that he is a "unique" CEO who must put forth extraordinary efforts and achieve "seemingly impossible goals" to earn this historic reward. In an interview, Denholm stated: "To achieve the vision we set, he must invest time, energy, and effort beyond that of ordinary people. This is definitely not an easy task. It is an extremely ambitious plan... If he can accomplish it, he is entitled to unprecedented rewards." Denholm also defended the board's "hands-off" approach to Musk's controversial political stance, emphasizing that he enjoys freedom of speech and possesses the unique qualities required by Tesla.
