PANews reported on April 17 that, according to Protos, DeFi users have recently encountered a new type of fraud: fraudsters have taken over the official website of abandoned projects to trick old users into signing malicious "fund withdrawal" transactions. This reactive scam is different from traditional proactive scams in that it specifically targets existing users who may still have bookmarks on old items. DeFiLlama's anonymous founder, 0xngmi, issued a warning that they have removed expired domains from platforms and browser extensions, but still reminded users to be vigilant. Since these project teams have been disbanded, no one has been able to spot security vulnerabilities or replace malicious interfaces in a timely manner, and users have little left to scrutinize each transaction to be signed on their own. A member of the Maker/Sky community noted that the official domain name of Sakura, a now-defunct Maker sub-DAO, is currently being sold for just a penny.
