When Can You Buy Altcoin Safely?

Recently, I have also been "silently" gathering some altcoins, but I would like to remind you: the proportion of altcoins in my total portfolio absolutely does not exceed 20%. This is a risk management principle that even large funds like Grayscale are applying – altcoins should only be a seasoning, not the main dish. So the question is: when can we safely buy quality altcoins?

  1. Basic principles when "holding" altcoin Must hold for a long time: If you decide to invest in altcoin, you must be able to withstand fluctuations, and to endure, your position must be small and light. Only choose quality projects: Do not touch junk coins or projects without real products. Realistic expectations: I only expect altcoin to increase 3–5 times, not dreaming of x10, x20.
  2. Perspective from Market Cap (BTC Dominance) History shows that when BTC Dominance is around 70%, it means that capital is almost entirely flowing into Bitcoin, and at that time altcoins have almost "died" out. When BTC Dominance drops to around 60%, it means that most of the altcoin bubble has been squeezed out → this is when many quality altcoins begin to emerge, becoming an opportunity. ⚠️ Note: This only applies to good altcoins like (ETH, LINK, AAVE, UNI, …), absolutely not "aircoin". With aircoin, there is no "altcoin season", so it is considered to go straight to 0.
  3. Perspective from Technical Analysis Do not buy a coin that is dropping at a 45-degree angle. No matter how cheap the price is, skip it, because it may not have reached the bottom. Only buy coins that have been moving sideways to create a clear price base. This is called "buying at the horizontal line" instead of "catching a falling knife." Prioritize coins that have had a year of price accumulation → buying this way almost guarantees you a better price than most people in the market, often up to 30% cheaper. For example: AAVE, UNI, LINK, ENA – all are tokens that have a relatively flat price base, suitable for consideration.
  4. Psychology & Cyclical Strategy In a bull run, you can be a bit "naive" and buy any hot coin, because at that time the influx of new capital is very strong. But by the middle and end of the bull run, you need to become sober and "experienced": Trust no one. Know when to pull back. Profits that are not realized are not yours. As for the "playing" aircoin, it's simple: it's a game of courage + trend + luck, not investment. 🎯 Conclusion Buying altcoin is not always the right time. Only when: BTC dominance has dropped to around 60% (, signaling capital returning to altcoin). Quality altcoins are forming a sideways price base, accumulating over the long term. A reasonable portfolio allocation ( should not exceed 20%). Then at that time you can confidently invest without worrying about being caught up in the fierce "top chasing". 👉 Simply put: only buy coins next year, do not buy coins this year. Those who understand this principle will definitely have a better cost basis than 90% of the market.
