US senators call on US Trade Secretary to stop negotiations on investor protection

On January 16th, Jin10 News reported that in the final days of the Biden administration, senators from both parties called on US Trade Representative Tai to stop the "secret negotiations" with Mexico, Canada, and Colombia, saying that these negotiations would weaken some of the investor protection provisions in some of the US free trade agreements. A source familiar with the trade negotiations refuted the senators' claim of "secret negotiations", insisting that the U.S. Trade Representative's Office had consulted with members of Congress, even though there was no legal requirement to do so.
