Key information from the US: Core inflation rises, consumer spending stagnates

According to news from Hash World Chain, data shows that the core inflation gauge preferred by the U.S. accelerated in June, reaching one of the fastest growth rates this year, while consumer spending barely grew. In June, the "Core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index," which excludes food and energy prices, rose 0.3% month-on-month and 2.8% year-on-year, indicating limited progress in curbing inflation. Inflation-adjusted consumer spending slightly rebounded in June after a decline in May. These data suggest that the tug-of-war in the economy has caused a divergence among Federal Reserve officials regarding the direction of monetary policy. On one hand, progress on inflation has largely stalled, and central bank officials are concerned that President Trump's tariffs will exert greater upward pressure on prices. On the other hand, a reduction in consumer spending due to a weak labor market could lead to an overall economic slowdown.
