Odaily News Goldman Sachs' analysis of unemployment claims data from various states shows a slight rise in the number of unemployment claims in the U.S. last week. This analysis is based on data released by the states during the federal government shutdown. Economists at Goldman Sachs, including Jan Hatzius, noted in a report to clients that the number of initial unemployment claims is expected to rise to approximately 224,000 for the week ending September 27, up from 218,000 in the previous government report. The bank adjusted the existing raw data from the states using seasonal factors previously published by the Department of Labor. Due to the government shutdown, the Department of Labor did not release its weekly report on Thursday, but provided downloadable data for most states. The September employment report, originally scheduled for release earlier on Friday, has also been delayed. ( Jin10 )
