U.S. stocks plummeted across the board, and oil prices surged.

On March 6 (local time), the three major U.S. stock indices opened sharply lower. As of press time, all three indices had fallen more than 1%. The Dow dropped over 800 points, down 1.84%; the Nasdaq declined 1.33%; and the S&P 500 fell 1.51%.

In commodities, oil prices soared significantly, with Brent crude up over 5%, surpassing $90 per barrel, and WTI crude rising over 8%, exceeding $87 per barrel.

Additionally, the VIX fear index surged sharply, rising nearly 18% as of press time.

In the news, U.S. President Trump declared on social media on March 6 that “no agreement will be reached with Iran unless it unconditionally surrenders.” He also stated that the U.S. and its “many allies” should “make Iran great again!”

The Israel Defense Forces issued a statement on March 6, claiming they targeted an Iranian senior official. The IDF said details would be released later.

Iranian sources reported on March 6 that the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said they used missiles and drones to destroy radar systems of U.S. missile defense systems such as THAAD in three Middle Eastern countries. Reports indicate that IRGC launched multiple missile and drone strikes, destroying U.S. THAAD radar systems in the UAE and Jordan, as well as a FPS-132 radar in Qatar.

Iranian media also reported that the IRGC shot down an Israeli “Kamikaze-900” drone in Khuzestan Province. Military experts quoted in the reports said the drone was valued at $30 million.

Furthermore, on the afternoon of March 6 (local time), the IRGC announced that the “Real Commitment 4” operation’s 22nd round had begun that morning. Iran launched large-scale attacks with “Khoramshahr-4” and “Fateh” missiles in retaliation for the attack on a school in Minab city. The announcement stated that targets from the Persian Gulf to Tel Aviv were hit. It also said that, in addition to ballistic missiles, Iran launched “Khoramshahr-4” missiles carrying 2-ton warheads at speeds exceeding Mach 14, as part of an intensified and expanded attack.

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, on March 6, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported receiving a warning that a tugboat was hit by an unidentified object while navigating the Strait. The incident occurred near the Strait of Hormuz, about 6 nautical miles north of Oman. The situation is still under further investigation.

Additionally, on March 6, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Saad Sherida al-Kaabi stated that Qatar has halted LNG production. Even if the conflict ends immediately, it will take several weeks to months for Qatar to return to normal supply levels. Kaabi predicted that all energy-exporting countries in the Gulf could cease oil and gas production within a few weeks.
