[Caixin] The development of artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing rapidly, and public discussions about job replacement are ongoing. On March 24, Jiang Xiaojun, former Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council, Director of the National Data Expert Advisory Committee, and Honorary President of the China Industrial Economics Society, stated that AI solely aimed at saving labor should be approached with caution. She made this remark at the Boao Asia Forum 2026 annual meeting.

AI is permeating various industries. Jiang Xiaojun said that the development of AI can be examined from two perspectives: “reasonableness” and “acceptability.” She believes that whether AI applications are reasonable depends on whether they can drive economic growth, improve people’s welfare, and promote social fairness. Technologies that help improve quality and efficiency are considered reasonable.
