According to Bloomberg, approximately 127k BTC previously seized by the U.S. government are now in asset forfeiture proceedings in the U.S. District Court in New York. Dozens of claimants have filed ownership claims, including those claiming to be victims of terrorist attacks or their family members, as well as applicants asserting that the relevant Bitcoin may have been mined at an Iranian mining farm. Chen Zhiyi, who has been charged by U.S. prosecutors as the head of a criminal organization, claims that these Bitcoins belong to him personally and requests the government to clarify how they were obtained. The lawsuit over BTC has generated hundreds of court documents, which will ultimately be decided by a federal judge.
