SEC's crypto-friendly chair Atkins has taken office with an oath.

The SEC announced that Paul Atkins has officially sworn in and started his duty as the 34th chairman of the commission (SEC).

Atkins was nominated by U.S. President Donald Trump on January 20, 2025, and confirmed by the Senate on April 9.

In his statement regarding the matter, Atkins said, “I am honored that President Trump and the Senate have entrusted me with the task of leading the SEC. I am happy to be back at the SEC. Together with other commission members and the dedicated professionals of the agency, we will work to advance the mission of facilitating capital formation, maintaining fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and protecting investors. Together, we will strive to make the U.S. the best and safest place in the world to invest and conduct business.”

Atkins was serving as a senior executive at a company called Patomak Global Partners, providing consulting to organizations including cryptocurrency companies, before returning to the SEC. Atkins was appointed as a commissioner of the SEC during the George W. Bush administration and served from 2002 to 2008.
