Justin Sun, the founder of the Tron blockchain, predicts that the price of Ethereum will soar to $5,000 in the coming months. His prediction comes as Ethereum prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary in July 2025.
Price predictions excite the community
This bold prediction has created waves in the cryptocurrency community, especially since Ethereum is currently priced below $2,000. Based on data from Coingecko, the second-largest cryptocurrency is valued at around $1,789.
Sun shared his opinion on X (previously known as Twitter), observing the personal connection with the launch date of Ethereum. His birthday is July 30, the same day Ethereum was launched in 2015.
The founder of Tron has seized this moment to collaborate with the Ethereum Foundation in promoting the upcoming birthday celebration. His price target of $5,000 has increased nearly 200% from the current level.
According to the report from the Ethereum Foundation, the 10th anniversary celebration will feature global birthday parties of all sizes. Organizations and individuals can plan local events to participate in the celebration.
To support the implementation of these events, the Fund’s ecosystem support program will reimburse up to $500 for each event. Applicants must submit their applications by June 15, 2025.
The fund hopes to create a “global holiday” environment for this anniversary, with participation from communities from various countries and regions.
Sun’s four-step plan for the development of Ethereum
Sun not only stopped at predictions but also outlined a specific plan that he is confident will bring Ethereum to $5,000 in the short term:
- The Ethereum fund should limit the sale of ETH for at least three years to restrict supply and promote holding.
- Instead of selling tokens, the Fund can use lending and staking platforms like AAVE to fund its activities.
- The fund must rationalize its team, retaining only the best developers and paying them higher salaries to enhance output quality.
- Development should aim to enhance the core Layer 1 network instead of dispersing resources into too many auxiliary projects.
Ethereum faces challenges despite its success
Although hosting thousands of decentralized applications and popular smart contracts worldwide, Ethereum is still struggling with various issues. Users often complain about it, including exorbitant gas fees, slow transaction speeds, and poor scalability.
Meanwhile, an upgrade called “Pectra” is set to take place in May 2025, which may address some of these issues. The upgrade is said to reduce transaction fees and enhance contract execution across the network.
Sun’s support for Ethereum stands out as he leads Tron, often regarded as a competing blockchain. Despite this clear competition, he still holds ETH and frequently praises Ethereum’s progress.
The market’s reaction to Sun’s optimistic outlook remains to be seen, as Ethereum will need significant momentum to reach the predicted price of $5,000 from its current price.
