Trump's Tariffs: India Strikes Back Amid Trade Deal Between the United States and China
India imposes a 25% customs duty.
India has decided to take retaliatory measures in response to Trump's tariffs, after the U.S. president decided to raise tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. This announcement comes at a time when the U.S.-China trade agreement is experiencing positive developments, raising doubts about the U.S. "China plus one" policy.Trump's tariffs: India does not submit to Donald Trump's whims.
U.S. President Donald Trump significantly reduced the pace of the trade war between the United States and China after raising tariffs by 145% in April. On the other hand, progress in U.S.-India trade talks appears to be facing a hurdle, as India plans to impose tariffs on several products in response to Trump's tariffs on U.S. steel and aluminum imports.

In March, the United States imposed a 25% tariff on imports of steel and aluminum. As the second largest producer of crude steel in the world, India informed the World Trade Organization that these tariffs would affect Indian exports to the United States worth $7.6 billion.

Tensions in the trade war between the United States and India have escalated at a time when the two countries were discussing a bilateral trade agreement, which is likely to conclude on July 8. This comes ahead of the entry of the 25% tariffs imposed by Trump on Indian imports to the United States, taking into account a 90-day grace period.

With President Trump's announcement of agreements with the United Kingdom and China over the past week, India, the key economic partner, remains neutral. On Monday, Trump announced a "complete reset" of the trade agreement between the United States and China, following the announcement of its details.

This may negatively affect India's competitiveness in attracting global companies looking to move from China. This decline undermines Trump's tariff cuts on China ❤️❤️❤️👍📈🥰
