On September 19, 2024, Trump went to the famous cryptocurrency-themed bar PubKey Bar in New York and bought a hamburger using Bitcoin. Donald Trump buying a hamburger is historically significant, as it is the first time in history that a former U.S. president has publicly used any form of cryptocurrency for a purchase. In the case of Trump, he paid for dozens of hamburgers through Strike, amounting to $998.70. Strike is one of the most popular applications using the Lightning Network. The bar uses Zaprite on the receiving end to process Bitcoin payments. PubKey co-founder Drew Armstrong ( confirmed that he indeed sold these hamburgers, and the president even personally distributed these hamburgers, jokingly calling them "crypto burgers."
