Alphabet’s Wing has reached a new agreement with Walmart to expand its drone delivery operations. On Sunday, the two companies announced that drone services will be available at 150 Walmart locations throughout this year. Currently active in Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta, this expansion is planned to continue until 2027.

How Drone Delivery Services Will Expand

Wing’s new Chief Business Officer Heather Rivera stated that the expansion will begin in new cities such as Houston, Orlando, Tampa, and Charlotte. Service in Houston started in January. Once this expansion is complete, Wing will serve over 270 Walmart stores, covering approximately 10% of the US population.

Drone delivery is not limited to fast delivery — the company is also updating industry technology. Recently, they successfully conducted commercial flights with a larger drone model capable of carrying up to five pounds, enabling quick delivery of large orders.

How Customers Will Use the Drone Service

Rivera said that the company’s most active customers use drone delivery up to three times a week. The most ordered products include eggs, ground beef, tomatoes, avocados, and snacks like Lunchables. This information shows that the drone service caters to a variety of customers.

Development of the Wing and Walmart Partnership

This partnership began in 2023 with a pilot program at two stores in the Dallas area. At that time, the service covered approximately 60,000 square feet. Later, it expanded to 18 Walmart Supercenters in Dallas-Fort Worth, with Atlanta now also included.

Rivera emphasized that their main goal is to fully integrate drone technology into Walmart’s existing operations. For example, a strategy of opening multiple stores simultaneously — a method previously used in Atlanta with six stores — may be replicated in new markets.

Wing currently works with DoorDash, but its primary focus remains on close collaboration with Walmart. This strategy helps establish Wing as a leading company in drone delivery and sets a new standard for rapid e-commerce delivery.
