1️⃣ Current Status (Latest Update):
➡️ To date, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has not issued any stablecoin issuer license to any company. The official register remains empty.
2️⃣ Hong Kong Stablecoin Regulation:
Hong Kong launched a stablecoin regulation framework starting August 1, 2025, where obtaining a license is required to issue fiat-referenced stablecoins.
3️⃣ Sandbox Participants (Potential Future Issuers):
Companies participating in the regulatory sandbox:
• Jingdong Coinlink Technology Hong Kong Limited
• RD InnoTech Limited
• Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited
• Animoca Brands Limited
• Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT) Limited
4️⃣ Expected Update:
🚀 According to regulators, the first stablecoin licenses are expected to be issued in limited numbers in 2026 once the review process is complete.
5️⃣ Compliance Requirements:
⚠️ To issue stablecoins in Hong Kong:
• HKMA license is required
• Strong AML compliance is required
• Must maintain 1:1 reserve backing
