It turns out that what I liked wasn't Jay Chou, but rather the Chinese style of Vincent Fang.

Jay Chou's new songs and music videos are all in a Western style. The grandeur is truly impressive, but watching them feels a bit uncomfortable, even nauseating.
Now I realize that what I’ve always liked wasn’t his Western musical style, but the Chinese elements written by Vincent Fang.

Azure blue waiting for misty rain, East Wind Breaks, Snow-like Hair, Lanting Preface…
That’s the true Jay Chou flavor, with the artistic conception and charm all in Vincent Fang’s lyrics.
Now only the glamorous Western exterior remains, the most soulful parts are gone, and the difference is really huge.
