Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating their SASSA grant details, especially when it comes to banking info. Here's what actually works based on what I've learned from dealing with this.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you can't do this online unfortunately. You have to go to your local SASSA office in person, fill out the Payment Method Change Form, and bring your ID plus recent bank statement (not older than 3 months). They'll send it to the bank for verification, which takes up to 3 weeks. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it active next cycle, otherwise you're waiting another month.

Now if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's different—it's all online through their portal. You enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, and you update your banking details that way. Takes a few days to weeks to verify. One thing to remember: the account has to be in YOUR name only, no joint accounts or third-party stuff.

Phone number changes are similar. For permanent grants, call 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. For SRD, use their online contact portal—enter your ID and Application ID, put in the new number, they send an OTP to verify. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website, not some random link, because there's definitely fake sites out there trying to scam people.

The whole thing is honestly a bit of a hassle, but once you know the process it's straightforward. Main thing is don't miss deadlines and always bring original documents to the office. Anyone else dealt with this recently?
