just realized you could literally have money worth way more than face value sitting in your wallet right now. been looking into rare bills lately and some of these are actually insane. like there are $2 bills from 1928 that go for thousands if they're in decent shape, even circulated ones can hit $175. wild right? but what really got me is the hundred dollar star note situation. apparently if you find a 100 dollar star note from 1996, that thing could be worth $150-$350 easy, sometimes even more. star notes are basically replacement bills and collectors go crazy for them. i checked my wallet and obviously nothing lol but apparently the 1966 red seal $100 bills are also pretty valuable, like $135-$169 range. then there's this 2009A series hundred dollar star note that can go for over a grand if it's got the right serial number or printing variation. honestly makes you wonder what's actually circulating out there. the condition matters a ton though - uncirculated is where the real money is. been thinking about actually hunting through old cash now, maybe hit up some banks and ask if they have any vintage bills. apparently the rarity, the seal color, and whether it's got a star in the serial number all affect the value. definitely consulting with an expert before selling anything though, don't wanna get scammed. anyone else ever find something valuable in their wallet? curious if this hundred dollar star note thing is actually as common as they say or if i'm just gonna be disappointed.
