I noticed an important warning from the StarkWare leadership about a subject that many people are truly underestimating. The discussion here is about the threat of quantum computing and how it could affect the security of our current cryptographic systems.

The idea, in short, is that once quantum computers mature and become operational, they will be able to break most public key cryptography systems that we rely on today. This includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, and blockchain in general.

The proposal focuses on five practical steps. First, we must acknowledge how serious the threat is and not ignore it. Second, we need a deeper understanding of what is called post-quantum cryptography and how it works, and we should spread this knowledge in the community rather than keeping it confined to specialized circles.

Third, we must support the researchers and institutions working on these solutions, and provide the necessary funding and resources. Fourth, we need to truly listen to experts and apply their standards when selecting new algorithms and determining appropriate security levels.

And finally, the crucial step is to apply these solutions at the protocol level. That means quantum-resistant signature mechanisms should become a fundamental part of the infrastructure, not an optional add-on. And ensure that wallets and other tools are compatible with them.

The topic may seem long-term, but experts emphasize that we need to start now. The smooth transition to post-quantum systems won’t happen overnight, and any delay now could mean real problems later.
