Democratic presidential candidate Harris also wants to win over encryption voters?
Author: Rhythm Xiaogong, BlockBeats
BTC doesn’t need politicians, but politicians need BTC.
With the announcement of US President Biden not seeking re-election, Vice President Kamala Harris has become the strongest contender for the Democratic Party nomination. Although we previously understood that Harris was not familiar with Cryptocurrency, recent developments indicate that she appears to be rapidly learning about this field.
encryption has become a “required course” for politicians
Before today, Harris’ only involvement with Cryptocurrency was hiring the former chief technology officer of the world’s first sports team to accept BTC, to manage her schedule and advance her agenda. Financial disclosures also show that Harris and her husband have never ventured into the Cryptocurrency field, but rather have a preference for investing in government bonds and emerging markets.
However, in less than 48 hours after announcing her presidential candidacy, Harris has already begun "补课"encryption.
According to Decrypt, Harris’ advisory team has started consulting billionaire Mark Cuban on Cryptocurrency policy for BTC enthusiasts.
Kuban said that the Harris team asked him long questions about Cryptocurrency, which shows their strong interest in this field.
Klobuchar also mentioned that although Harris has not publicly expressed her views on Cryptocurrency, as a former San Francisco politician, she is considered to be closer to the interests of Silicon Valley and the technology industry than Biden.
In fact, before the Harris team consulted with Kuban, the cryptocurrency lobbying group, the “Digital Commerce Chamber,” wrote to urge Harris to embrace cryptocurrency and suggested that she choose a running mate who strongly supports cryptocurrency.
The lobbying group said, “The public perceives the Democratic Party’s negative view of digital assets, mainly due to the cautious or even hostile attitude of the Biden/Harris administration towards these transformative technologies. Your presidential campaign provides an opportunity to change this perception.” This seems to have worked for the Harris team.
With the warming up of the Crypto lobbying, Harris’ public support for BTC may make sense. After all, the industry has invested millions of dollars to influence Washington’s politics, and Congress has passed a series of policies supporting Cryptocurrency.
BTC Conference, or the first battlefield between Trump and Harris
We all know that in order to continue his support for Crypto, Trump will deliver a speech at the upcoming BTC conference.
And at present, there are reports that Harris will also speak at the BTC conference. As of now, BlockBeats has not confirmed whether Kamala Harris will speak at the conference, but this possibility is not nonexistent.
After all, David Bailey, the CEO of Bitcoin Magazine and the Bitcoin Conference, did say on his social media platform that he is indeed in talks with the Harris campaign team to have her speak at the conference. ‘If she can reposition the Democratic Party among the fastest-rising voter groups in the country, that would be very wise. They are determined today.’
This also means that the BTC conference could become the battleground where Harris and Trump face each other for the first time after determining their presidential candidacy. And BTC will be the main focus of these two fierce competitors.
Harris also set his sights on the encryption vote
Cryptocurrency is no longer a niche topic, and its impact on US politics is growing. Independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy and Republican candidate Donald Trump have publicly supported BTC, forcing the Democratic Party to take action.
The Democratic Party faces two choices: to continue to oppose BTC, or to change its course, support BTC and make it a symbol of freedom.
On the Democratic side, with Biden’s withdrawal, Harris’ nomination chances on the Cryptocurrencyprediction market Polymarket skyrocketed to 82%. However, it cannot be ruled out that other potential candidates may become dark horses.
What’s more, Obama, the Democratic Party’s most influential politician and former United States president, has not publicly expressed support for Harris to succeed Biden. In addition to Obama, former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi did not immediately express support for Harris. Last week, US media sources said that both were in favor of selecting a replacement for Biden through an “open” process.
From Harris’s perspective, there is a strong confrontation with the pro-encryption Republican candidate Trump; internally, the Democratic Party also has ample time to select another presidential candidate.
Facing the public and the camera, the smiling Harris actually faces multiple pressures from inside and outside, and she and her team must make choices quickly. If Harris can reposition the Democratic Party in the fastest rising national voter group in the encryption field, it would be a wise strategy.
Of course, she may also be able to pursue the same policy as Biden and be cold towards Cryptocurrency.
