Foresight News reports that Musk announced the closure of X’s office in Brazil while retaining services in the country, due to the inability to agree to (illegal) secret review and private information transfer requests from the Supreme Court Justice of Brazil. X’s Global Government Affairs Department stated in a post, “Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes threatened to arrest our legal representative in Brazil if we do not comply with his review order, based on a secret order. We are sharing this order here to expose his behavior. To protect the safety of our employees, the decision to close our operations in Brazil is effective immediately.” It is currently unclear how large X’s operations are in Brazil. Sensor Tower’s data shows that as of the first quarter, the platform has about 20 million active users in Brazil, a decrease of about 15% from the same period last year.
