Co-founder of Solana is developing the Perp DEX Percolator: GitHub
The CEO of Solana Labs, Anatoly Yakovenko, seems to be developing a high-performance decentralized perpetual futures exchange protocol called Percolator, built directly on the Solana blockchain.
According to the GitHub document published on October 19, the project is in a “ready for deployment” status.
Percolator is a self-custodial, on-chain DEX perpetual contract exchange (. This protocol has an on-chain routing program that helps users track positions, manage collateral assets, and calculate portfolio margins. A unique feature is the concept of 'slabs', or separate order books for each token.
Slabs are designed to enhance competition among liquidity providers, using a “sharded matching engines” mechanism, dividing the order book of the Perp DEX into multiple small, independent engines that run in parallel.
Yakovenko explained: “This design keeps each LP slab fully self-managed and upgradable, while the Router ensures atomic routing, portfolio settlement, and safety within the functional scope. The testing matrix ensures that no harmful or faulty slab can affect users not interacting with it, while the overall capital efficiency is equivalent to a single-block DEX exchange — even often having better execution quality thanks to selective routing.”
It is currently unclear when Percolator will be launched, but according to GitHub, the development process is at a fairly advanced stage. The core data structures, including Router, Slab, temporary memory, order book system, and other key operations have been “completed”, while components such as the liquidation engine are still on the “not yet implemented” list.
At least two developers have submitted pull requests to contribute to Percolator.
