U.S. Secretary of Energy: Halting offshore wind power is an "exception" and optimizing approval is key.
On September 22, Jin10 reported that U.S. Energy Secretary Granholm stated in an interview that pausing offshore wind projects would not make the U.S. a risky place for investment; however, he simultaneously urged Congress to reform the approval process to expedite other infrastructure projects. He believes that the Trump administration's halt on the already permitted or under-construction offshore wind projects along the Atlantic coast should be seen as an "exception." He revealed that relevant parties both inside and outside the government are actively discussing this matter to explore the best solutions. He called for the establishment of a new process to find communities willing to accept nuclear waste storage facilities and provide economic incentives. Granholm stated, "We are building large infrastructure, but the process is still much slower than it should be." He revealed that he has engaged in communication with bipartisan lawmakers. When asked if this year presents a political window of opportunity, he responded, "It's very likely." When questioned whether solar and wind energy still have a place in the "energy dominance" agenda, Granholm stated, "Solar will continue to rise." He pointed out that solar energy is superior to wind energy in terms of energy density, "It's cheaper and can be assembled faster."
