Vitalik comments on the centralization controversy of Base's sorter: Base is doing things the right way.
On September 23, regarding the recent centralization controversy surrounding Base sequencers (, some statements even suggested that Base should be defined as a trading platform rather than an L2 network ). Vitalik stated that Base is doing things the right way: an L2 based on Ethereum, leveraging its centralized advantages to provide a stronger UX, while still being bound to Ethereum's decentralized base layer to ensure security. Vitalik also emphasized that Base does not hold users' funds; they cannot steal funds or prevent users from withdrawing funds (which is part of the definition in L2beat Phase 1).
