An interesting perspective on the development of crypto that I recently noticed. Many believe that non-financial applications of blockchain are already outdated, and the “read-write-own” concept has failed. But there’s an important point here that is often overlooked.
This era is not about everything needing to develop simultaneously. The era is rather about how blockchain introduces a fundamentally new primitive—the ability to coordinate resources at the scale of the Інтернет, embedding ownership directly into systems. Finance naturally demonstrates the value of this mechanism, which is why it looks like the main example. But that doesn’t mean other applications—media, games, ШІ—don’t have a chance. It simply means they will come later.
Look at the history of Інтернет. It didn’t begin with social media or streaming video. It started with basic infrastructure—TCP/IP, packet switching. Only when millions of people came online did new cultural and economic categories emerge. Crypto will likely follow the same path. First come payments, stablecoins, DeFi—this will bring in millions of users. Then, once the infrastructure, wallets, identification mechanisms, and liquidity are ready, other areas will follow.
Building new technological systems is a marathon, not a sprint. Breakthroughs in ШІ that we’re seeing today are the result of decades of work. Crypto, too, requires time. That’s why major funds structure portfolios for 10+ years—they understand that building new industries doesn’t happen overnight. These calm years lay the foundation for future achievements.
