Hong Kong will promote cross-border low-altitude flight activities within the Greater Bay Area
On November 12, Jinshi Data News reported that the Hong Kong government announced the establishment of the 'Low Altitude Economy Development Working Group' in a new policy address. Today, Huang Weilun, Deputy Secretary for Finance of the Hong Kong SAR Government, chaired the first meeting of the working group as the group leader. At the meeting, the working group discussed the overall development strategy and work plan for Hong Kong's low altitude economy. The following are the directions for the work: 1. The SAR Government will cooperate with the industry and partner organizations to gradually implement pilot projects in the 'regulatory sandbox' starting from early next year. The first stage is expected to focus on drone cargo transportation and gradually expand and enrich the application scope of low altitude flight, including relaxing 'beyond visual line of sight operations'. 2. The SAR Government will refer to legislation and standards in the Mainland and other regions, fully consider current needs and long-term development, update the existing civil aviation related legislation, including studying the regulatory system applicable to larger drones (i.e. drones weighing more than 25 kilograms), with the goal of submitting it to the Hong Kong SAR Legislative Council for review in the first half of next year. 3. The SAR Government will conduct technical research and planning on low altitude infrastructure construction, including landing and takeoff sites, communication networks, air route networks, low altitude surveillance and management systems, etc. 4. Strengthen connection with the Mainland and promote cross-border low altitude flight activities within the Greater Bay Area.
