An Ethereum researcher has proposed a plan for Blob expansion in 2025.
Wu learned that Ethereum researcher @ralexstokes proposed a plan for Blob expansion in 2025. The next Ethereum hard fork upgrade after the Pectra upgrade is called Fusaka, with improvements related to Blobs being PeerDAS. The Pectra upgrade increases the Blob target/maximum per block from 3/6 to 6/9, while the introduction of PeerDAS allows for an increase to 48/72. However, given that the PeerDAS technology is still new, adopting a BPO fork (blob parameter only, a soft fork method specifically for adjusting Blob parameters) to gradually increase the Blobs is a more prudent approach. The specific plan is as follows: after the Fusaka upgrade mainnet activation, first observe blob(6, 9) for two weeks, then double the Blob capacity every two months until it reaches (48, 72). Currently, core developers expect the Fusaka mainnet activation to occur in Q3 2025.
