Ron DeSantis's plan to reduce the federal government

In a recent television interview, a prominent Republican presidential candidate shared his vision for simplifying the federal government by eliminating certain agencies. The governor of Florida expressed his strong support for reducing the overall size of government and stated his intention to dismantle some departments if elected president.

"We would focus on Education, Commerce, Energy, and the Internal Revenue Service," the candidate stated. "If Congress works with me on this, we can reduce the size and scope of government." He added: "If Congress doesn't go that far, I will use those agencies to counter the progressive ideology and leftism that we see infiltrating all institutions of American life."

Similar proposals in previous campaigns

This proposal is not unprecedented in Republican presidential campaigns. In 2012, another candidate promised to abolish five cabinet-level agencies if he won the election, specifically the Departments of Education, Interior, Commerce, Energy, and Housing and Urban Development. According to that candidate, eliminating these mistakes and inadequate investments was necessary to reduce the debt and return to economic growth.

Tax reforms and governmental restructuring

The current candidate has also previously expressed his position on the reform or dismantling of the Internal Revenue Service. In a conversation at the end of May, he expressed his support for a flat tax rate system, stating that these proposals would represent significant improvements over the current system. He did not hesitate to label the Internal Revenue Service as a "corrupt" entity, distant from the interests of the average citizen and taxpayer.

Vision of a Deep Government Reform

During his television interview, the candidate emphasized the need for a deep reconstitution of the government. Reflecting on the unfulfilled promise to "drain the swamp" in 2016, he offered a more compelling metaphor by suggesting that it is urgent to break the very foundations of the system. "We need to fundamentally reconstitute the government. We talked about draining the swamp in 2016; that didn't happen. I think the best analogy is to break the swamp," he emphasized.

The candidate's restructuring plan focuses on four key government departments: Education, Commerce, Energy, and the Internal Revenue Service. This proposal for government restructuring and tax reform has sparked intense debate over the role and size of the federal government in today's American society.
