Thieves in the animal kingdom!
What a wild world we live in! I have always been fascinated by how we humans are shocked by theft, yet in nature, this behavior is perfectly normalized. Who said that animals are innocent? Ha!
I have been observing this phenomenon of kleptoparasitism and I can't help but see parallels with certain traders I know... but I better keep quiet.
Baboons, those rogues, steal leopard cubs and "take care" of them - although I suspect they have less noble intentions. It reminds me of when some investors appropriate other people's projects just to take advantage.
Bottlenose dolphins also have this knack for "kidnapping" young from other species. Do they do it out of kindness? Or is it an evolutionary strategy? I have my doubts about their true intentions.
Cuckoo bees are perhaps the most brazen. Without any remorse, they lay their eggs in other nests and their larvae devour the host's offspring. True parasites! This reminds me of certain markets where some take advantage of the hard work of others.
And let's not talk about the insects... flies, beetles, and bedbugs that have made stealing their way of life. I almost admire their audacity.
This pup-stealing behavior is much more complex than it seems. It can be by adoption, feeding, competition or simple infanticide. Crude but real, like the cryptocurrency market when there is panic.
Perhaps we should learn from these animals: the most cunning survives, not necessarily the strongest. Although of course, I would prefer to live in a world where we do not have to steal to thrive.
