The Ludicrous Salary of Sam Altman: AI's $76K "Billionaire"
Just found out that Sam Altman, the guy running the whole damn ChatGPT empire, took home a measly $76,001 last year. Yes, you read that right - the man steering a $300+ billion AI juggernaut is getting paid like a mid-level programmer! And get this - it's only a tiny raise from his 2022 paycheck of $73,546. I'm laughing at the extra $1 they tacked on there, like it's some kind of weird flex.
What strikes me as absolute bullshit is that Altman claims this pathetic salary is just "the minimum standard for health insurance." Come on, man! This dude's worth around $2 billion but has ZERO equity in the company that's reshaping our world. How convenient that Bloomberg reports they're "considering" giving him shares as they morph into a for-profit beast.
The whole setup reeks of tax optimization and PR theater. I've seen small startup founders pay themselves more! Meanwhile, this guy's sitting on a fortune from his early bets on Uber, Airbnb, and Reddit.
You gotta wonder what kind of game Altman's playing here. Is he really the altruistic tech visionary content with minimum wage while steering humanity's AI future? Or is this just clever maneuvering to avoid scrutiny while he builds his empire behind the scenes? The IRS filing might be legally sound, but I'm not buying this humble-CEO act for a second.
When you're worth billions but take home less than many teachers, something's not adding up. Either way, Altman's laughing all the way to the bank - just not with his OpenAI salary.
