Imagine someone buying a virtual house for a million. Crazy? Maybe not.

The media talks a lot about these astronomical sales of NFT properties. It's causing quite a stir. I will attempt to demystify this concept, without any promise of exhaustiveness.

What exactly is NFT real estate?

NFTs, those famous non-fungible tokens. Assets stored on the blockchain with unique metadata. Unlike Bitcoin.

Bitcoin? It can be exchanged for another Bitcoin. Same value. NFTs? Impossible to exchange identically. Each one is unique.

These tokens can represent ownership of something. Real estate lends itself well to this. Each house is unique, isn't it?

NFT real estate, that's it. Unique properties that we buy and sell via blockchain.

Tokenized real estate

A studio in the United States. First NFT real estate asset. Sold in 2017 by the founder of TechCrunch.

In 2025, it becomes almost commonplace. The technology settles in. Huge time savings. From your couch, you explore houses on the other side of the world. You can even change the color of the walls virtually. Convenient, right?

Virtual real estate

Properties in virtual worlds. The Sandbox. Decentraland. Do these names mean anything to you?

The metaverse and its NFT properties

The metaverse. A virtual world mirroring our own. We work there. We learn there.

This is not a leak. Rather, it is an enrichment of our reality. Mark Zuckerberg sees it as the future of social media. Sharing experiences remotely. Doing the impossible.

NFTs? Perfect for proving that we own something out there.

What are NFT lands?

Virtual parcels represented by NFTs. Some sell for more than real houses! A plot in Decentraland: 2.43 million dollars. It's dizzying.

No need to be a gamer. You can even buy shares of land. Like stocks.

What to do with it? Build. Trade. Organize events. The possibilities seem endless.

How to get started?

As with any NFT. Buy. Wait for it to increase in value. Resell.

Two options are available to you:

  • Full ownership ( if you already own a real estate )
  • Fractional ownership (more accessible, like shares)

With fractional ownership, you receive dividends proportional to your share. You can sell whenever you wish.

Concrete purchase

You need:

  • An account on a specialized platform
  • A crypto wallet
  • The good cryptocurrency

The most used cryptos? MANA for Decentraland. AXS for Axie Infinity. SAND for The Sandbox. The latter seems particularly popular in 2025.
