How to instantly delete an account on Telegram and what you need to know

I’m fed up with Telegram and all these crypto scammers and spammers. I decided to figure out how to delete it once and for all. And I’ll be honest - it’s not as easy as it seems! The platform clearly doesn’t want to let you go.

What Happens When You Delete Your Account - Important to Know!

I hesitated for a long time before deleting because I understood that there was no turning back. Your personal messages, photos, contacts - everything will disappear, as if you never existed. Well, not exactly like that. Your messages will remain with your contacts, only your name will become depersonalized as "Deleted Account." To me, it's quite creepy - your digital presence remains, but you are no longer there.

And what annoys me is that even if you decide to return with the same number, you will start with a clean slate. No old chats, groups, nothing. And on top of that, sometimes you have to wait several days to re-register with the same number!

Two ways to get rid of Telegram

Through the app ( quickly, but with complications )

I first tried through the app, it's easier:

1. Go to "Settings" → "Privacy"
2. Search for "If I'm not logging in" and click "Delete account now"
3. Scroll down and select "Delete my account"
4. Confirm with your number and password

That's it, you can forget about your existence on Telegram.

And then I tried through the browser - and it's even easier:

1. Go to the official website for deletion
2. Enter the number and receive the code in the message
3. Enter the code, click "Delete My Account"
4. You confirm - and forgive, years of correspondence!

Auto deletion for those who hesitate

If you, like I did at first, are hesitant - there is an option to set up auto-deletion. Just go to the privacy settings and choose an inactivity period - 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. Do not log into the app during the specified time - and your account will quietly disappear. I chose a month to avoid the temptation to return.

Data Preservation - For Advanced Users Only

I was upset to lose conversations, but export is only available on the Windows desktop version. No convenient saving from the phone! This is just outrageous, considering how many people use only mobile devices.

What to replace Telegram with?

After deleting it, I switched to Signal - there is less noise and more privacy. There are other options too: WhatsApp ) although it also annoys me with its connection to Meta(, Viber or Discord for gamers.

Telegram attracted the crypto community with its bots and channels, but because of this, so many scammers with fake signals and "profitable" investments have proliferated there that it has become unbearable.
