Data: Over the past year, central banks around the world have cut interest rates 168 times, and the Fed is joining the monetary easing queue.
On September 29, according to data disclosed by Kobeissi Letter, central banks around the world have cut interest rates 168 times in the past 12 months, marking the third highest number of rate cuts this century. The peak in the previous period was 196 rate cuts accumulated over 12 months following June 2020. After the 2008 financial crisis, global central banks cut rates as many as 249 times within the 12 months ending October 2009. Although the Fed is one of the last central banks to join the rate-cutting cycle, it is expected to cut rates two more times by the end of the year, as the Fed is joining the shift in global monetary policy focus.
