The 7 cheapest cryptocurrencies you should consider in 2024

Wow! While Bitcoin keeps breaking records and reaching $73,000, we mortals are left watching with our mouths agape and our wallets empty. Who can afford to invest in that monster? I certainly can't, and I'm sure you can't either.

But don't worry, not all is lost. The crypto world is much more than Bitcoin and its stratospheric prices. There are coins that cost less than a coffee and could bring you joy in the future.

I share with you my personal list of cheap cryptocurrencies that are worth looking at. And no, I haven't been paid to mention them (hopefully).

What are really the cheapest ones?

If we talk about ridiculously low prices, Elon's Cat (CATME) takes the cake with a value of 0.00000000000000000000000002318 dollars. Yes, I had to count the zeros several times. This meme coin inspired by the eccentric billionaire has so many zeros that I don't even know how to pronounce its value.

There is also OSL AI with its 0.0000000000000000000003242 dollars per token. Honestly, these coins have more zeros than my bank account after paying the rent.

But let's be honest, these "super-cheap" are more like curiosities than serious investments. Most are projects without solid foundations or simple meme coins created to take advantage of trends.

The 7 that do deserve your attention

1. Ripple (XRP) - $0.52

Ripple has been trying to revolutionize the international banking system for years, and despite its legal battles with the SEC, it remains one of the big players. At $0.52, it is 85% below its all-time high. A bargain or a sinking ship? I bet on the former, but of course, I'm not a financial advisor.

2. Cardano (ADA) - $0.45

Founded by Charles Hoskinson, one of the original minds behind Ethereum, Cardano prides itself on being scientifically rigorous and sustainable. It has risen by 30% in the last year while others have collapsed. At less than half a dollar, it seems like an accessible entry for a serious project.

3. The Graph (GRT) - $0.29

The "Google of blockchains" sounds pretentious, but The Graph really solves an important problem: indexing blockchain data to make it queryable. At $0.29, it is well below its all-time high but has multiplied its low by 5. Not bad for a technology that is just beginning to take off.

4. Tron (TRX) - $0.11

Ah, Justin Sun, the showman of the crypto world. His platform Tron may have as many fans as detractors, but the truth is that it has survived several market cycles and remains among the top 20 by capitalization. At $0.11, it represents a cheap entry into an established, albeit controversial, ecosystem.

5. Stellar (XLM) - $0.10

Stellar does the same thing as Ripple but without all the legal dramas. Its partnership with MoneyGram and other established companies gives it some credibility, and at $0.10 per token, it seems like a reasonable bet for those looking for exposure to blockchain payment technologies.

6. Gala (GALA) - $0.04

Blockchain games have not exploded as many expected, but Gala is still in the race. At $0.04, it is 95% below its peak, which means it is either an incredible bargain or a dying project. With daily volumes of more than $100 million, someone still believes in it.

7. Ankr (ANKR) - $0.04

Blockchain infrastructure isn't sexy, but it's necessary. Ankr facilitates web3 development and has risen 87% in the last year. At $0.04, it seems cheap for what it offers, but of course, you are competing with tech giants in this space.

My sincere opinion

Look, these coins may seem cheap compared to Bitcoin, but that doesn't mean they are good investments. Many altcoins have disappeared in previous cycles.

Personally, I prefer to distribute my investments among projects with strong teams and real use cases, regardless of the price per token. XRP and ADA have huge communities backing them, but will it be enough?

The truth is that no one knows which cryptocurrencies will survive in five years. I would diversify between some of these "cheap" ones and others that are more established. And of course, I would never invest what I can't afford to lose.

The low price does not equal value, remember that. Sometimes the cheap ends up being expensive, especially in the wild west of cryptocurrencies.
