The current market is truly a mess! The US-China trade tensions haven't settled yet, and now the US is facing bad bank debts, with two banks exposing loan fraud, triggering a trust crisis -- the regional bank index plummeted by 7%, and the three major stock indices all corrected, causing panic in the market. Risk aversion sentiments surged instantly, and both gold and silver prices soared, with gold hitting a new high. In contrast, the cryptocurrency sector has become a disaster area, with ETH-heavy institutions reporting losses exceeding $2 billion. Even more outrageous, some treasury projects seem to be failing, with some project offices completely empty. These treasury projects hold massive amounts of currency, and once they collapse, the entire market will tremble.
Moreover, when I saw the news about gold's market value surpassing 30 trillion USD, my first reaction was: Damn, this is insane. My second reaction was: Wait, could this be a signal of capital rotation... How much has gold increased from the beginning of the year until now? It went from 3600 to a peak of 4370 per ounce, an increase of over 20%. This increase may not seem large, but keep in mind that the base for gold is 30 trillion, folks. 20% translates to an incremental capital of 6 trillion USD.
Where does this money come from? Part of it is safe-haven funds, worried about the US-China trade war, geopolitical risks, and the dollar's credit. But another part is purely the sentiment of chasing the rise; seeing gold prices hitting new highs every day, retail investors are probably going to start lining up to buy physical gold again.
