Marathon Digital Sells Over $236 Million in Bitcoin: Major Transfers Reported
Bitcoin Sales from Leading Mining Company: Marathon Digital Transfers Over $236 Million Worth of BTC
Marathon Digital, known for its consistent Bitcoin purchases, appears to have started selling BTC. On-chain data indicates that the company has transferred Bitcoin worth over $200 million to various platforms.
As the mining company holding the largest amount of BTC, with over 50,000 coins, Marathon Digital seems to have sold approximately $236 million worth of Bitcoin.
Recently known for its regular acquisitions and continuing its focus on Bitcoin mining instead of venturing into AI, the company transferred 2,348 BTC to various institutions. These transfers are widely considered to be sales.
According to blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain, the Bitcoins were sent to FalconX, 2Prime, Galaxy Digital, and Coinbase Prime. The company has not yet provided any official statement regarding these transactions.
Bitcoin miners had faced significant revenue declines following the 2024 halving, which reduced rewards by half. Even with the rise in Bitcoin prices, profits and operational costs remained challenging. Some mining companies offset expenses by leasing data centers to AI firms requiring high electricity consumption.
Just yesterday, French company Sequans announced the sale of 970 BTC to cover its debts, highlighting a continuing trend of mining companies selling portions of their holdings.
