Social Media Platform's Virtual Currency: The Next Game-Changer?

Short-form video platforms are making waves with their virtual currency ecosystems. TikTok's coin system is being compared to Meta's digital assets—but are they really the same thing?

Here's what sets them apart: These in-app tokens function as engagement rewards and payment mechanisms within their respective platforms. The comparison draws attention to how major tech companies are experimenting with tokenized economies.

So what exactly are they? Virtual currencies designed to streamline creator payments, live gifting, and user engagement. They're not blockchain-native tokens, but rather centralized digital assets managed by the platforms themselves.

The real question: Will platform coins become a mainstream gateway into crypto, or remain confined to their walled gardens? As more platforms experiment with token mechanics, the line between traditional digital payments and Web3 infrastructure keeps blurring.

To be honest, these platform tokens are just a different flavor of the same thing; true Web3 still has to be on-chain stuff.

NGL platform tokens are just a renamed version of fiat currency. True Web3 still has to be things on the blockchain.

To be honest, these platform tokens are completely centralized tricks and have nothing to do with real crypto.

Here we go again. Platform tokens are just platform tokens, forcing them to be packaged as Web3 tickets? I think it's just a more advanced recharge card, renamed to scam retail investors. --- I have deep experience with the term "reset to zero." Last year, I bet on similar things, and now that money... well, no need to mention it. --- Centralized assets sound so good, but in reality, they just freeze your account and wipe it out at will—it's just a matter of the platform's word. My battlefield experience tells me that anything not on the chain is fake. --- Ha, before bragging about this, ask TikTok's coin how it's doing now? Reverse indicators show that the more someone talks about the next game-changer, the more you should buy the dip and watch. --- Walled garden is just a prison, and they call it an ecosystem. Veteran old-timers like us have seen through it long ago.
