Abstract generation in progress

According to Mysteel data, China’s polysilicon production in January was 93,500 tons, a decrease of 17.26% month-on-month and a decrease of 0.53% year-on-year. In January, polysilicon output contracted significantly, mainly due to major companies halting production completely in mid-January. Other regions also followed with reduced production, with some companies increasing output but on a smaller scale. Mysteel forecasts that in February 2026, polysilicon production will be 79,500 tons, down 14.97% month-on-month. The domestic capacity utilization rate for polysilicon in January was 32.83%, down 6.9% compared to December 2025. The first month of 2026 saw a notable decline in polysilicon operating rates, primarily due to industry-led production cuts to address ongoing inventory buildup and downward pressure on prices. Additionally, leading companies responded to self-discipline initiatives by temporarily halting production for maintenance. Terminal demand is in the traditional off-season, and combined with reduced production in wafer and cell segments, this further weakened demand for silicon materials. Mysteel estimates that in February 2026, the capacity utilization rate for polysilicon will be 27.9%, a decrease of 4.9% month-on-month.
