My research focuses on the interaction between people and nature. This includes studies on how environmental change affects ecosystems, especially in cities where human impacts are most concentrated. I am interested in the ecosystem as a whole, so my research covers multiple species, including trees, insects, and birds. To create useful knowledge, I aim to understand how specific environmental changes, such as air pollution, vegetation composition, and artificial light, impact ecosystems.

Urbanization also influences people and our relationship with nature; my second main research interest is how connecting with nature affects our health and attitudes toward wild animals and habitats. To explore these questions, I rely on both long-term studies and research on how our local environment shapes us.

My fascination with urban ecology comes from a love of biology combined with a desire to produce knowledge that can help address some of the biggest societal challenges of our time. As most of the world’s population now lives in cities and urbanization continues, I believe these interactions are as important as they are interesting to study.
