Mars Finance reports that on March 7th, according to the Financial Times of the UK, UK government ministers will delay controversial amendments to copyright rules due to strong opposition from the creative industry. These amendments would have made it easier for AI companies to access and use media content. An individual familiar with the UK government’s two-month consultation response said, “Copyright issues will be postponed again.” The consultation aimed to gather opinions on how to regulate AI companies’ access to copyrighted materials, with the government’s official response expected to be released within the next two weeks. Two insiders revealed that public feedback on the consultation did not support any of the government’s proposals for AI to use copyrighted materials. As a result, ministers have decided to re-examine the proposals, gather more evidence, and conduct longer consultations on various options.
