American Express will pay millions of dollars to settle a class-action antitrust lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that American Express implemented anti-steering rules that prevented merchants from directing customers to use cheaper credit cards, resulting in higher prices for all consumers. The beneficiaries of the settlement are primarily Illinois residents who used certain non-reward credit cards at stores like Walmart between 2016 and 2022. The claim deadline is May 19. American Express has not admitted to any wrongdoing.
