China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), headquartered in Shenzhen, announced on March 5th that by the end of February 2026, CGN’s cumulative clean energy grid-connected electricity generation will exceed 3.65 trillion kWh, reducing coal consumption by over 1.11 billion tons and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by more than 3.39 billion tons, equivalent to afforestation of 8.21 million hectares.

It is understood that CGN has established a clean energy supply capacity with an annual grid-connected electricity generation exceeding 370 billion kWh.

In the nuclear power sector, the first “Hualong One” in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area—the Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Unit 1—successfully connected to the grid and started power generation before the Spring Festival, and is now fully committed to commercial operation. The first “Hualong One” in the Yangtze River Delta—the Zhejiang San’ao Nuclear Power Unit 1—has completed nuclear fuel loading and is about to achieve its first grid connection and power generation.

Currently, CGN operates 28 nuclear power units and has 20 under construction, with a total installed capacity of over 56 million kW, maintaining the largest nuclear power scale in the country.

In the field of new energy, CGN focuses on resource-rich areas such as Shago Desert and deep-sea regions, implementing the “Hot Sea Green Sand Hydrogen” strategy, with key projects accelerating their progress. In Funing, Yunnan, four photovoltaic projects are progressing smoothly; the 100 MW photovoltaic project in Dengmo was successfully connected to the grid at the end of 2025; three other 40 MW photovoltaic projects—Longha, Ping’an, and Napeng—are being pushed forward. In Dilingha, Qinghai, the largest domestic tower-type solar thermal integrated project has been in stable operation since commissioning, with over ten thousand solar tracking mirrors following the sun daily. In Yangjiang, Guangdong, the Fan Shi No. 2 1 million kW offshore wind power project is accelerating construction, with full capacity grid connection planned for mid-2026.

By the end of 2025, CGN’s domestic renewable energy operating installed capacity exceeded 70 million kW, nearly tripling since the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan.

CGN Chairman Yang Changli stated that accelerating the construction of an energy powerhouse requires safety and reliability as the foundation, green and low-carbon as the direction, economic efficiency as the key, and independence and controllability as the guarantee. CGN will speed up the demonstration project of “Hualong One” 2.0, plan the research and development of “Hualong One” 3.0, and promote breakthroughs in advanced reactor types, advanced fuels, and new energy technologies, making energy supply safer, more economical, and more autonomous. Additionally, CGN will actively expand the multi-application of nuclear energy by planning zero-carbon nuclear energy supply parks, solving AI computing power energy consumption issues, and promoting the coupling development of nuclear energy with traditional industries such as steel, petrochemicals, and marine chemicals to support green transformation in key industries.
