West Virginia’s Attorney General, JB McCuskey, has filed a lawsuit against Apple, accusing the company of knowingly enabling the storage and distribution of child sex abuse materials on its iOS and iCloud servers. The lawsuit alleges that Apple has refused to implement industry-standard detection tools and that its internal communications indicated the company was aware of the issue. McCuskey is seeking for a court order for Apple to take reasonable measures to abate the materials, and also seeks restitution, disgorgement, and civil penalties.
