Fire Department Raid on Illegal Gas Station in To Kwa Wan Shop - 850 Liters of Gasoline Seized
The Fire Services Department raided an illegal gas station on the ground floor of a building in To Kwa Wan, seizing approximately 850 liters of gasoline. A man is suspected of violating the Fire Services (Fire Hazards Elimination) Regulation, the Dangerous Goods Ordinance, and the Dangerous Goods (Control) Regulation, and will be prosecuted.
Wu Ying-che, the Fire Services District Commander (Dangerous Goods Enforcement), stated that around 7 p.m. last night, the department received a referral from the police indicating that at a unit on the ground floor of Yik Fung Building, D Block, 239A To Kwa Wan Road, illegal fuel transfer activities and suspected excessive storage of dangerous goods were observed. Fire prevention enforcement officers arrived to investigate and found oil drums, fuel guns, hoses, and other fueling tools at the scene, with about 850 liters of gasoline stored inside. Since the unit did not hold any dangerous goods licenses, the department believes it was used as an illegal gas station.
During the operation, a man was detained on-site for suspected violations of the Fire Services (Fire Hazards Elimination) Regulation, the Dangerous Goods Ordinance, and the Dangerous Goods (Control) Regulation. He will be prosecuted. The department also found transaction records and will investigate whether the involved vehicles were used for illegal fueling activities, and may prosecute the vehicle owners. The gasoline at the scene has been seized, and the department will apply to the court for its confiscation.
Wu Ying-che emphasized that engaging in illegal fuel transfer activities is a very serious crime. The unit involved is located in a commercial-residential building, with residential units above the shop. There are also other shops and elderly care homes nearby. If large quantities of dangerous goods are stored without complying with fire safety regulations, it poses a significant threat to the lives and property of nearby residents.
