World Steel Association: Global crude steel production of 147 million tons in January, down 6.5% year-over-year

According to data released by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production of 69 countries/regions included in the association’s statistics in January 2026 was 147 million tons, a decrease of 6.5% year-on-year. In January 2026, Africa’s crude steel production was 2 million tons, up 5.8% year-on-year; Asia and Oceania’s crude steel production was 108 million tons, down 8.6%; the European Union (27 countries) produced 10.3 million tons, down 2.3%; other European countries produced 3.7 million tons, up 4.4%; the Middle East produced 4.8 million tons, up 12.6%; North America produced 9.2 million tons, down 0.6%; Russia, other CIS countries, and Ukraine produced 6.5 million tons, down 8.6%; South America produced 3.4 million tons, down 1.2%.
