Hubei Former Provincial Party Secretary Jiang Chaoliang Prosecuted on Suspicion of Bribery

On March 17, according to the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, Jiang Chaoliang, a former member of the 14th National People’s Congress Standing Committee and former Deputy Chair of the Agriculture and Rural Committee of the National People’s Congress, was investigated for bribery. The case has been concluded by the National Supervisory Commission and transferred to the procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution. The Supreme People’s Procuratorate has decided to arrest Jiang Chaoliang on suspicion of bribery and designated the Nanjing People’s Procuratorate in Jiangsu Province to review and prosecute. Recently, the Nanjing People’s Procuratorate has filed a public prosecution with the Nanjing Intermediate People’s Court.

During the review and prosecution process, the procuratorial authorities informed the defendant Jiang Chaoliang of his legal rights and questioned him, listening to the defense’s opinions. The prosecution accuses Jiang Chaoliang of using his positions as Director of the Comprehensive Planning Department at the Agricultural Bank of China, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Bank of Communications, Deputy Party Secretary, Vice Chairman, and President of China Development Bank, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Agricultural Bank of China, Vice Governor of Jilin Province, Governor of Jilin Province, and Party Secretary of Hubei Province to seek benefits for others, illegally accepting property from others, with a particularly large amount, and should be prosecuted for bribery according to law.

Born in August 1957, Jiang Chaoliang has served as Governor of Jilin Province and Party Secretary of Hubei Province.

On February 21, 2025, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission announced that Jiang Chaoliang, a member of the 14th National People’s Congress Standing Committee and Deputy Chair of the Agriculture and Rural Committee, was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law. He is currently under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission.

In October 2025, Jiang Chaoliang was expelled from the Party.
