Qingdao 7 Departments Jointly Issue Work Plan to Promote Steady Growth in Ship and Offshore Equipment Industry
People’s Financial News, March 24 — According to Qingdao Daily, recently, the “Qingdao City Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment Industry Stabilization Growth Work Plan” was jointly issued by seven departments including the Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, the Municipal Financial Office, the Development and Reform Commission, the Science and Technology Bureau, the Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, the Marine Development Bureau, and the Commerce Bureau. The plan sets development goals for the city’s shipbuilding and marine equipment industry by 2026. It aims to help Qingdao’s industry effectively respond to changes in domestic and international markets, develop a product system with increasingly rational structure and distinctive features, cultivate more than three internationally competitive leading enterprises, and maintain steady and healthy industry growth.
For the shipbuilding industry, Qingdao is aligning with global shipbuilding trends by heavily investing in high-end and green vessel types. This includes promoting the upgrade of main ship types with new fuels such as LNG (liquefied natural gas), methanol, and ammonia, to support large bulk carriers and mineral ore ships. The plan also emphasizes developing high-tech ships like VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers), container ships with over ten thousand TEUs, feeder container ships, and unmanned vessels. It encourages proactive technological reserves for smart ships, accelerates the diversification of ship types, and enhances the industry’s core competitiveness. Shipbuilding and repair companies are also encouraged to plan ahead for green retrofit technologies and pilot projects for green power sources such as methanol and ammonia fuels.
