According to multiple sources cited by mainland media, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (00388) former Managing Director and Chief China Economist, Shu Song Ba, has recently lost contact. Sources indicate that Ba has been taken away for investigation by relevant authorities, but details of his case are not yet known.
Ba Song Ba left HKEX before serving as a part-time advisor
HKEX confirmed that Ba Song Ba left Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited at the end of 2025, and before his departure, he served as a part-time advisor.
The last time Ba Song Ba appeared publicly as HKEX’s Managing Director and Chief China Economist was at the “China Opportunities Forum” held by HKEX in Shanghai on October 22, 2025. During the event, he discussed changes in the global financial landscape and described Hong Kong’s strategic positioning as a “super connector.”
HKEX established the Mainland Affairs Department in April 2015, appointing Ba Song Ba as Chief China Economist and concurrently serving as Managing Director. Prior to that, Ba had held positions such as Deputy Director of the Financial Research Institute at the Development Research Center of the State Council, Chief Economist of the China Banking Association, member of the Hong Kong Economic Development Commission, and senior visiting scholar at Columbia Business School, University of Columbia, USA.
