BP and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s joint venture, Arcius Energy, is set to begin drilling two offshore natural gas exploration wells in the Mediterranean Sea off Egypt. This is part of the country’s broader upstream expansion plans.

The drilling will target the Atoll West and Nofret prospects and is part of a broader initiative by Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and investment partners to drill over 100 oil and gas exploration wells by 2026.

The move aims to strengthen Egypt’s exploration and upstream activities.

To prepare for the drilling, Valaris’ drillship, Valaris DS-12, has departed from the port of Las Palmas in Spain and is en route to Egypt.

The vessel recently underwent an operational readiness inspection, during which the company noted its operational efficiency, safety system configuration, and the professionalism of onboard personnel.
