Middle East Situation | Wang Yi Speaks by Phone with Iran's Foreign Minister, Says Talking is Always Better Than Fighting
Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi had a phone call today with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
Wang Yi reiterated China’s principled position, emphasizing that all hotspot issues should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation, not by force. Talking is always better than fighting. This aligns with the interests of Iran’s government and people, and also echoes the common wishes of the international community. We hope all parties seize every opportunity and window for peace to initiate peace talks as soon as possible. China will continue to uphold an objective and fair stance, oppose infringements on other countries’ sovereignty, actively promote peace and stop conflicts, and work towards regional peace and stability.
Araqchi stated that the Iranian people are more united than ever to resist external aggression and defend national sovereignty and independence. Iran is committed to achieving a comprehensive ceasefire, not just a temporary one. The Strait of Hormuz is open to all, and ships can pass safely, but warring countries are not under consideration. We hope all parties take measures that help de-escalate the situation rather than escalate conflicts, and we look forward to China continuing to play an active role in promoting peace and stopping wars.
